Columbia Launches Redesigned MDiv Program for Fall 2027

Launching Fall 2027, Columbia’s 77-credit MDiv offers flexible two-, three-, and five-year pathways with an integrated approach to theological education.

DECATUR, Ga. — Columbia Theological Seminary will launch a redesigned Master of Divinity (MDiv) curriculum in Fall 2027, introducing a 77-credit degree with three pathways — including a new intensive two-year MDiv option. Applications are now being accepted through Columbia’s online application portal.

The redesigned curriculum reduces the degree requirement from 90 to 77 credit hours while creating a more intentional, integrated learning experience. Students may pursue the MDiv through a two-year intensive, three-year full-time, or five-year part-time pathway, offering greater flexibility while maintaining the rigor and depth of a Columbia theological education.

Ministry experience and formation are integrated throughout the curriculum, including a year-long Supervised Ministry experience beginning in the first year, Intercultural Intelligence and Contextual Immersions, and Colloquy, a two-year cohort-based series connecting academic study with practical and formational learning.

“I am incredibly proud of the innovative work of our faculty to create pathways for students to pursue their calls to ministry at their own pace,” said Rev. Ann-Henley Nicholson, Vice President for Enrollment Management and Vocational Outreach.

Columbia will also offer dual MDiv/Master of Arts in Practical Theology and MDiv/Master of Arts (Theological Studies) degrees through three- or four-year pathways, allowing students to earn both degrees in less time than pursuing them separately.

The redesigned MDiv curriculum will welcome its first students in Fall 2027.

“At Columbia, access and flourishing are inseparable from our mission to educate and nurture faithful, imaginative, and effective leaders for the Church and the world,” said the Rev. Dr. Victor Aloyo, Jr., President of Columbia Theological Seminary.
