B6112 Beyond the Protagonists: Marginal Figures in the Old Testament

B6112 Beyond the Protagonists: Marginal Figures in the Old Testament

Examining neglected, anonymous, and demonized figures in the Old Testament, this course traces their afterlives in Jewish, Christian, and Islamic interpretation. Through close reading and contextual interpretation, students examine how side characters expose literary, theological, and ethical tensions. The course equips students to interpret texts with greater ethical sensitivity for ministries among the vulnerable, the silenced, and the misread.
