FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DECATUR, Ga. — Columbia Theological Seminary has completed a significant organizational realignment designed to strengthen long-term sustainability, enhance operational effectiveness, and position the Seminary for continued service to the Church and the world.
Following a multi-year institutional assessment affirmed by the Board of Trustees, Columbia will implement a new structure, effective July 1, to strengthen mission alignment and strategic priorities.
As part of this transition, seven employees accepted early retirement through an incentive program, and a reduction in force affected eleven employees. Leaders expressed deep gratitude for the contributions of those impacted and confirmed that transition support has been provided.
“These decisions carry real human consequences, and the Board does not take that lightly,” said Rev. Elizabeth Goodrich, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “Our responsibility is to steward the Seminary’s long-term health while ensuring Columbia remains prepared to educate faithful, imaginative, and effective leaders.”
Columbia will begin recruiting newly designed positions aligned with its updated structure and expects to complete hiring by August 2026.
The updated structure supports a broader institutional focus on academic excellence, enrollment and retention, financial sustainability, communications, and organizational effectiveness. No academic degree programs are being eliminated.
“We are grateful for the service of those impacted by these decisions and mindful of the loss felt across our community,” said Rev. Dr. Victor Aloyo, Jr., President. “Faithfulness to our mission requires both stewardship and innovation, and though difficult in this moment, this organizational restructuring positions us to serve the Church and prepare leaders for generations to come.”
